MDMA is hallucinogenic meth. It is a federal Schedule I drug because it has no approved medical use. It induces a five to sic hour euphoric effect, characterized by increased activity, mood alteration and altered perception. MDMA is typically seen in either white power, capsules or, more commonly, pressed pills, which may be any color and may have a wide variety of imprints. The imprints vary from commercially popular cartoon characters, clothing designer logos, automobile emblems, animals, hearts dollar sign, lightning bolt, etc. The pills (or capsules) are expensive, commonly $15 to $20 a hit retail. When supply is low, suspects may mix meth with LSD or ketamine or even GHB power (anything that gives the hallucinogenic aspect) and represent it to be MDMA.

Deaths have occurred and are usually associated with "burning up" from the effects of MDMA. Users are usually seen continuously drinking water to stay hydrated. There have been cases of hyponaetremia or water intoxication. When a person sweats, they lose not only water but also vital salt and other body chemicals such as electrolytes. When a person fails to replace the electrolytes, the result is low blood sodium levels. In mild cases, a person may suffer a mild headache, confusion , malaise, nausea and cramping. Severe cases such as some MDMA users, is usually more sever and leads to seizures, coma and death. |
